Weather EAR Order - Configuration Options

Thanks for choosing the MTS Weather EAR. Your answers in the following form will help us configure your EAR to your specifications. We will ask for shipping and payment information at the end of this form.

County and State #1 *

EAR detects warnings based on the County and State included in the alert message. Here we need the County and State where EAR will be located. If you know the FIPS Code for this location you may enter it here.
County and State #2

EAR detects warnings based on the County and State included in the alert message. This County and State entry should be one adjacent your home county in the direction your severe weather usually comes from. If you know the FIPS Code for this location you may enter it here. (This entry is optional)
County and State #3

EAR detects warnings based on the County and State included in the alert message. This County and State entry should be one adjacent your home county in the direction your severe weather usually comes from. If you know the FIPS Code for this location you may enter it here. (This entry is optional)

Primary NWS Weather Station Frequency *

If you do not know the frequency of the closest NWS transmitter we will select it for you based on the County and State #1 above.
Alternate NWS Weather Station Frequency

Some areas are served by more than one transmitter. If you know of a second station serving your county you may select it here. This entry is optional.
Automatic Alternate Frequency Change
YES - Change automatically NO - Do not change automatically
If you entered an alternate frequency above EAR can change to that frequency automaticaly if the primary signal is lost. You can change between the two frequencies manually regardless of this setting. This setting has no meaning if there is not an alternate signal available.
END of Message Automatic Mute *
Yes - Mute at End of Message No - I will mute the speaker myself
EAR can resume silent monitoring at the end of a warning message. If you select NO here, the EAR speaker will remain on until you press the mute button.

There are 53 events in the warning system. EAR can alert you to any combination of events. Your selections here determine which events will activate the EAR speaker when issued for one of the County and State locations indicated above. You may also select the first choice "ALL Events" in which case the remaining items need not be selected. We recommend selecting the RWT - Required Weekly Test to verify proper operation of EAR. This event is activated every Wednesday between 11AM and Noon local time.

You can reconfigure EAR with the Serial Data Cable. You will need this cable, an RS-232 serial port and the software included with your EAR order. With this option you can reconfigure the receiver frequency, location codes, and set up all other options.

EARWatch Software (fully described elsewhere on this site) uses your Windows PC and the serial data cable to distribute information received by your EAR.
